A teapot from a recent firing. I obviously got a bit excited with these brush strokes and they made their way up onto the lid. Usually, I would try to keep the lid crisp and clean but, I actually quite enjoy lining up the brush strokes on the body to the lid, like a puzzle!

To get such a well fitted lid I, once again, turned to @floriangadsby , who demonstrated how to use lapping paste to grind back any inconsistencies in the fit of a lid. It works like a dream!

I have a lot of trimming and attaching of handles to do this week.

Pulling and attaching handles is a process I really relish, even if it takes a good few to get back into the swing of it sometimes. From the pulling of the initial blanks, to trying to replicate the same handle shape for 10s of mugs at a time, it is always a pleasurable challenge (I will probably eat my words and screw it up this week!).

I will make sure to show you a few of the projects I have on the go this week, too – one of which I am very excited to share with you!

I hope everyone has enjoyed a lovely weekend, wherever you are, whatever you’ve been doing. My weekend consisted of a day in the studio yesterday and a lovely long walk today.

I am a little tentative as to what to say with these posts but, I will get back into the swing of things. Equally, I’d love to hear from you whether there’s any process/anything you like me to film or photograph in/about the studio.

In good news, my favourite vase has entered 2025 with me, which I am not upset about. I get to sit and look at it and it’s blue marks whilst I’m in the studio – I think, it has so much movement. It’s one of my pieces which really inspires me when I’m glazing.

Hello, I think it may be time for another introd

Hello,

I think it may be time for another introduction. Not just for those who may not have heard from me before, but also for myself. At the end of last year year, as my first full year in my Salcombe studio came ended, I found myself lost. I didn’t give it much attention as I was swept up in the rush of Christmas and festivities, families and celebrations. Unfortunately, January quickly rears its blue head and, I have spent the majority of this month feeling less and less present. This isn’t something I have really spoken about on here before - it is not unusual for me - however, it has felt particularly prevalent this year for one reason and another.

The studio, which was my place of joy and pleasure, had somehow become one of self-doubt and unhappiness. I was relentlessly telling myself that my first year as a potter had just been beginners luck, and wondering whether I am wasting my time.

Anyway, today, the sun is finally out and it felt like the day to come ‘back’? People always say that it is good to share and good be honest, so I am sharing and being honest, hoping that, as this months clears, so will my head!

I have also really missed being on here and chatting to all you lovely people so, thank you!
