This was the start of a teapot, with its correspon

This was the start of a teapot, with its corresponding lid. Unfortunately, as you will be able to see in the bottom corners, I had trimmed it too thin, in an attempt to get the foot and lid the same diameter (I hope you can see what I was trying to do there with the symmetry of it!).

Anyway, as always, it was a good opportunity to wire it in half, and have a look at the throwing side of things. I’m really happy with the overall thickness of the walls, and particularly happy with the cross section of the lid!

Luckily, I have made plenty of teapots, and this was the only one that was lost at the wet stage. I have a collection of others which are now sat drying in the studio, I just need to get them through the firings 🤞🏼

A couple of weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure

A couple of weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of delivering a complete, 10 piece, dinner service. It was a pleasure to make, and I got to deliver it in person – it is not often I get to see such a large collection of my own work together, in situ.

I was utterly over the moon with it, and how it looked as a set, (I think the customer was happy, too!).

The edges and rims here are of plates, desert plates, and bowls, looking extra satisfying in their stacks!

This entire lot (AND SOME!) has just been emptied from a bisque firing.

Everything made it through safely, and I am thrilled with how it all looks. I am slightly apprehensive to start glazing now, I just wish I could sit with them in their pinky-bisqued state for a while longer, but there’s no time for that!

There are a fair few new pieces here, which is always very exciting…

Tap Tap Tap

Tap centering is a bit of a time saving exercise, a quick (albeit tricky) way to quickly center pots on your wheel for trimming.

To tap center, you use the motion of the spinning wheel, combined with little taps to the side of the pot, until it finds the centre of the wheel. It’s not easy, and can be incredibly frustrating, I definitely still haven’t mastered it, but for little pieces like lids, it certainly does save time.
