WHAT TO EXPECT...

(...from your typical first lesson)

“The process “ – an initial discussion about the origins of the clay and the process it goes through to become a finished pot

– A demonstration

At the wheel – you will be given your own wheel and for the duration of the lesson, we will work on:

. the fundamental techniques of throwing

. cutting your pots to expose their cross section and evaluating your work

. how to “wire off”, or, remove pots from the wheel

– Although my lessons are aimed at those who want to learn how to throw, what I hope for the most is that you will have fun!

My sister and I had an absolutely brilliant time at Kitty's studio. Kitty is a great teacher! She is friendly, knowledgeable and her demonstrations were easy to follow. By the end of our 2 hour session we had both made some lovely pieces that we were proud of! I would definitely recommend!

The lesson I had with Kitty was the absolute highlight of the holiday we had in Salcombe. My sister and I spent two fabulous hours learning the basics of throwing. Kitty was kind, patient and we had so much fun. I was ever so pleased with what I managed to make considering we’d never been on a wheel before. The fact that Kitty fires and glazes your favourite pieces and posts them to you means you come away with not just lovely memories but also something tangible to remember your lesson by. I thought it was excellent value for money and I would recommend it to everyone. Thanks so much! Liz from Nottingham 😊

I recently had a brilliant 1:1 session with Kitty at her fantastic studio - Kitty gave me a really good demonstration and then guided me very patiently through the process - it was so fun and definitely gives a great intro to throwing on the wheel.

My wife and I took a lesson with Kitty and it was so much fun! Kitty is a great teacher, made it really easy to understand the techniques and helped us make some pretty decent pieces (considering we were total beginners!). The studio is really nice and Kitty is super friendly. Her work is amazing and we couldn’t help but purchase a couple of her pieces as well! Highly recommend!

Learnt the basics about pottery throwing from a passionate young artist and came away with our own (and better than expected) creations. Highly recommend if visiting Salcombe.

I’ve had a couple of throwing lessons with Kitty now and what a wonderful teacher she is to learn from. So patient and talented, I have no doubt in recommending her. I’ve made a vase and a bowl so far and absolutely adore them. There’s also a great selection of glazes to choose from. Her own work is beautiful, well worth a visit to her studio.

My lessons are both open to beginners and those who have thrown before. For those who have previous experience, want to focus on specific techniques during a lesson, or, focus on regular progression, please enquire.
